Making Money Online – Maintain Focus!

I have been messing with the Internet for 5 plus years. I have spent a ton of money, and I have made nothing. I found one program that was doing well and I was up $1800.00 and it just disappeared from the screen.
But anyway I am still plugging along. I find it almost impossible to recruit. Everyone says go to your friends. Well my friends all think that I am a nut. I am about to believe them.

This is one of the most common dilemmas faced by newcomers online and one that I myself had a big problem with.
When I first came online in 1998 I spent $1000s on info products and online tools, not really knowing what I was doing. I also joined close to 100 different affiliate programs.
The first thing you MUST do when deciding to enter into a home based business is research the company you are about to put your time and effort into. After all, like any business, you WILL be spending money, if you are really serious about making a go of it online. You don’t want to invest in something that may not be there two or three months down the line.
It is a fact that the vast majority of businesses fail within the first 3 years of starting. So it makes sense to join an online business that has been going for at least 3 years. You can check out the history of a site at the Wayback Archive. This will show you a sites’ history and from that you can gather how long the business has been running.
You will also find that many of the successful Internet marketers are promoting many of the same programs. Visit the online forums to find out what they are. A good place to start is the Warrior forum.
Also, if there is a scam artist at work you can be sure to read about it at the numerous discussion forums.
This does not mean that all companies starting off are NO GO areas. If the person starting the business or selling a product has a proven track record online then it may be worth the risk to get involved. This is just a general guide. I still get burnt occasionally no matter how much care I have taken. 
Another big problem with getting started online is focusing your attention in too many directions. This is a sure way to make little to no money online. Whatever Internet marketing resources you DO have, should be focused in one direction.
For instance, if you decide to make money from Google AdSense then spend your days setting up websites to make money in this area. No point making a decision to try out an online money making strategy and then go in a totally different direction the next day or the next week.
To make it online you must be focused and persistent. It can take a few months of focused work to bring good profits from any strategy. Most people give up before they get anywhere near succeeding.
Once you are making a profit from one strategy then move on to another. As your resources and contacts grow, you will find it takes less time and effort to get into a profitable position with each venture.
If there is a big group of people making money in a certain area then YOU can do it too. Find out EXACTLY what they are doing and stick at it!
I have NEVER approached friends or family members in order to build my business, nor would I want to, especially when starting out. How embarrassing! You want people to put their faith and money in a project that you cannot even work yourself yet?
The whole point of working online is that I don’t have to convince my friends and family to invest in my business or recommended products/services. I don’t need to tell you how big the net is and how many people are online.
There are loads of resources on this site to help you find those people and send them back to your websites.
Unless you have a very large family 
, I suggest you focus on the people online, not offline.

You said right that making online money is not so easy as many people says and the example is in front of me. It is not easy as it looks from out site. We have to strive very much for making a number of smart money. Nice article.
Great article Mal. I’ve been on both sides of this fence, with almost 5 years in MLM, all offline and very “in your face” marketing which I hated, and many of my family and friends hated too!
When I first started online I tried everything, and failed at so many, but slowly over time I found some things that worked well for me. In the end it came down to being committed, focussing on my strengths and interests, and avoiding anything that looked too good to be true – because it always was! When I started focussing on providing real value, either in my own products or promoting affiliate offers, that’s when I started earning reasonable money. I still have a long way to go, but I’m now “full time” (i.e. my online income is my primary income) and I’m loving it every single day… For anyone just started be prepared to work hard and keep learning and you’ll get there!

Indeed when you first start online the main problem is you get information from different sources you think they know it all. The next obstacle is you don’t know who to follow first. They all tell you “this is the best!”. I’m online for five years know and now I know how to filter the “good” from the “bad”. Now I know I have to focus on one or two strategy’s!
To Dalene Soares and all other newcomers and beginners, I would advice to take a look at Chris Farrell’s website. I discovered his website a few months ago and he’s the “best of the best” for me.

Thank you Albert for your comments. Indeed you do need to take guidance from someone who has actually been successful. The other most important thing is that you must take action. How can anyone ever know whether something works or not unless they apply the knowledge they have been provided with.
The great thing about online opportunities is, it takes comparitively much less investment to get started.

Hey Mal, I’m very interested in your program because I feel that it is right for me, but my income is at an all time low I haven’t work in over 10 years because of some debts that I had to pay back to society if you know what I mean? It’s hard out here to get a decent job. Need help badly.
