This is one of the most common dilemmas faced by newcomers online and one that I myself had a big problem with.

When I first came online in 1998 I spent $1000s on info products and online tools, not really knowing what I was doing. I also joined close to 100 different affiliate programs.

The first thing you MUST do when deciding to enter into a home based business is research the company you are about to put your time and effort into. After all, like any business, you WILL be spending money, if you are really serious about making a go of it online. You don’t want to invest in something that may not be there two or three months down the line.

It is a fact that the vast majority of businesses fail within the first 3 years of starting. So it makes sense to join an online business that has been going for at least 3 years. You can check out the history of a site at the Wayback Archive. This will show you a sites’ history and from that you can gather how long the business has been running.

You will also find that many of the successful Internet marketers are promoting many of the same programs. Visit the online forums to find out what they are. A good place to start is the Warrior forum.

Also, if there is a scam artist at work you can be sure to read about it at the numerous discussion forums.

This does not mean that all companies starting off are NO GO areas. If the person starting the business or selling a product has a proven track record online then it may be worth the risk to get involved. This is just a general guide. I still get burnt occasionally no matter how much care I have taken.

Another big problem with getting started online is focusing your attention in too many directions. This is a sure way to make little to no money online. Whatever Internet marketing resources you DO have, should be focused in one direction.

For instance, if you decide to make money from Google AdSense then spend your days setting up websites to make money in this area. No point making a decision to try out an online money making strategy and then go in a totally different direction the next day or the next week.

To make it online you must be focused and persistent. It can take a few months of focused work to bring good profits from any strategy. Most people give up before they get anywhere near succeeding.

Once you are making a profit from one strategy then move on to another. As your resources and contacts grow, you will find it takes less time and effort to get into a profitable position with each venture.

If there is a big group of people making money in a certain area then YOU can do it too. Find out EXACTLY what they are doing and stick at it!

I have NEVER approached friends or family members in order to build my business, nor would I want to, especially when starting out. How embarrassing! You want people to put their faith and money in a project that you cannot even work yourself yet?

The whole point of working online is that I don’t have to convince my friends and family to invest in my business or recommended products/services. I don’t need to tell you how big the net is and how many people are online.

There are loads of resources on this site to help you find those people and send them back to your websites.

Unless you have a very large family , I suggest you focus on the people online, not offline.

You think John Reese could have made $1 million dollars in sales with his Traffic Secrets course had he not built of a network of people willing to sell his product as affiliates? No way!

That said, of all the products I have purchased from those at the top of this business, I haven’t been disappointed yet. The ‘top guns’ have long since realized that providing great value leads to even greater profits down the line – when they release further products or services.

I’m real interested in this program or I should say opportunity but I’m worried about the costs involved that aren’t the initial upfront cost.

I know on some other websites you have to push hard on advertising and marketing and web hosting and all that stuff just to get the ball rolling. What is the average cost to get this thing totally rolling?

There are many, many ways that you can legitimately make money online. I can give you my ideas and thoughts on processes that I have proven to work in my own business.

I have very profitable niche websites as well ‘work at home’ sites like freeadvertz.com.

In terms of costs, my blog set up that would cost you $134. That’s your website costs covered for one year. If you decided you wanted an email capture form on your site, you’d need to open a Getresponse account. This can be as little as $18 per month. There are no hidden costs in that set up.

Although I don’t recommend it, you could build traffic to your site and reach your goal, by blogging, and only using FREE marketing methods.

Look, you could send 1000s of visitors to your site every month by making Youtube videos and linking back to your website. Everything depends on how hard you work and how enthusiastically you pursue your goals. This strategy wouldn’t cost you a dime. Many are video marketing on Youtube, very successfully – even newcomers.

Advertising costs are costs that you would need to personally consider. You can spend as little or as much as you like.

With a careful plan you could realistically reach your goal within 3 months.

There are a number of ways you can proceed.

If you join My World Plus team then you would need to sell around 1 membership per day to reach your goal, within a month or two.

1. Set out a plan of action – Grab a notepad and pen OR open a notepad file on your PC, but DO put down in writing how you plan to proceed.

That plan should start with getting your own website online. Everything else stems from there. This is what I did, what everyone I know who has been successful has done. That’s why I recommend it as a starting point.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW THE OUTCOME OF YOUR PLAN BEFORE MAKING A START – TAKE ACTION! – That’s extremely important to remember.

2. Decide what topic/market you are going to base your site on – If you choose to promote My World Plus or any other MLM/Work at Home opportunity, then you need to be even more careful about choosing your keywords below, because there are 1000s of other experienced marketer pursuing many of the top keyword phrases.

Ideally, you should choose something you are passionate about. It will be much easier to write about if you know at least a little about the topic – or better still a lot about it.

You don’t have to write your own content, though. You can pay someone to write your blog content, but you’ll need to factor this into your costs. I can give you a couple of contacts of people who can write content for you for around $10 per article.

Most importantly when choosing a niche, is finding a market where people are actually buying, and with a significant number of searches online.

We already know that there is a vast market for work at home opportunities. People are spending millions of dollars worth of products and services in this area, every month PLUS there is a bountiful supply of prospects, searching for such opportunities.

Here’s basic tip: Go to Magazines.com Have a look at the different magazine titles. If there is a magazine on any given topic topic then people ARE buying in this market.

Then, check Google’s keyword tool for an approximate number of searches for related keyword phrases for any niche you are interested in.

3. Discover Your Keyword Phrases - Next, head over the Wordtracker and read everything you can on choice of keywords – especially ‘long-tail’ keyword phrases. There are some great articles there. Whether you enter a very competitive market like the ‘work at home’ field or less known markets, the correct choice of keyword phrases to target, is crucial.

You could realistically have targeted traffic coming to your site within a week or two IF you choose the right keyword phrases. So when formulating a plan, keyword research is vitally important.

Here’s an ebook that will cover everything you need to know about niches. There ARE better ebooks out there but this one’s FREE and will cover the basics, help you get the gist of niche markets, and help you work on a plan of action:

4. Start blogging consistently – Once you have your site online and your keyword phrases chosen. The more original blog posts you have published the more traffic you will get. You take some of those keyword phrases and incorporate them into your blog post titles and content.

5. Build backlinks - This is also a crucial part of your business for long term growth. Basically, the greater number of quality links you have linking back to your site the more weight your pages will have on Google and the other major search engines.

6. Rinse and repeat the above – Keywords – Blog – Backlinks.

I don’t expect you to take all this in at once. Nor, is it meant to be a comprehensive plan. The above is basically what you need to do to build any business online. Now, it’s up to you to do the research and formulate your plan of ACTION.

I honestly believe many people continue to buy one product after another, because they consciously or subconsciously believe, they will find a magic bullet, and won’t actually have to do the work involved. Thanks for your question. I myself had a full-time job when I first became interested in making money online around 10 years ago. I was also a father of one. We now have three boys.

If I could recommend one program at the moment it would be My World Plus but ultimately I would advise you NOT to put all your eggs in one basket. I have always had this idea in mind, from shortly after getting started in 1999/2000.

Put ‘www.freeadvertz.com’ into this domain age tool and you’ll find that this site is 8yrs and 11 months old.

I have never seen the point in building anyone else’s business and web presence but my own.

YOUR focus should be on building YOUR website. Once you have made gains in this area, THEN you can pick and choose which programs you are going to promote from your site.

I have promoted many opportunities over the years. Some didn’t work out, some did. Many I am still promoting today, in one way or another.

The thing is, because I am getting visitors to this site on a daily basis, if a particular program ceases to be, it’s not the end of the world. I simply remove their links from my site and promote something else. Does that make sense?

How can he do this? – you may ask. He can do this because he stands to make much more from sales of related products once people jump on board with the S%H deal. Of course, no one is under any obligation to buy his other products BUT they WILL do so. A certain % always do – unless of course his ‘hook’ product is so crap that his new customers run a mile. That ain’t gonna happen though because he’s offering some great stuff and for $2.95(or thereabouts) it’s a no-brainer.

The above strategy is used with freebies too. If you give value in your free offer then you may gain a customer for life, later down the line. Giving value to a person is a very effective way of doing online business.

If I give you a $300 product for nada. You bet you’re gonna be my friend for life. So the free or nearly free method helps establish trust too PLUS strengthen the relationship between customer and product owners.

Sometimes too, marketers will offer a product FREE for a month. Why? They know that a % aren’t gonna cancel after a month, so again, they stand to gain. So, just remember to cancel those subscriptions before the months end – unless of course you find the service of value.

So when you see ‘FREE’, someone is always making some money, somewhere down the line.

The funny thing is that even though I know how the game works I still go for the offers and many times buy more or continue my subscriptions after the free period ends. The reason I do so is because having taken the freebie I see the value in the product and continue as a customer.

Now that you know how it works too, get out there and grab yourself some free products, but keep your Credit card handy, just in case;)

First of all, I’m not intending to paint a rosey picture of blogging or online business in general. I frequently say throughout this blog that it will take hard work and persistence to succeed.

If the alternative is to slog away ’til retirement, barely scraping by, then give me the hard work online anytime.

I also say that ‘anyone’ can do it, not EVERYONE. In fact at the expense of probably scaring many off, I will tell you that most people will FAIL. Not because there’s anything wrong with these opportunities BUT because they won’t put in the time or work required, or fail to follow directions. What’s new! Most people fail in businesses offline too.

I’ve worked with many people over the years, some give up after a week or two, some make a few dollars then pack it in, many work hard but for whatever reason give up just as they’re about to make a break-through. Others though, have taken their new business, and gone on to exceed the earnings I have ever achieved.

I don’t promise that any particular person will succeed. I do promise to provide the training required to help those that REALLY want to change their finances for the better, and are prepared to stick at it long enough to find success.

I’d be interested to hear how or by which business opportunity you were scammed.

It’s very unrealistic to expect me to pay up front to bring people on board. That wouldn’t be good business, or common sense. I would be left chasing after people trying to urge them along towards their income goals. I’d also end up seriously broke.

Some great questions here. Let me answer them one at a time…

Domain Names?

The domain is basically your online home, like Amazon.com. This is their original name, no one else can use it and it remains theirs for as long as they register it every year. The domain is the name that we type in the browser address bar when we want to access a certain site.

Some domain names have been sold in the past for millions of dollars. Not saying that is likely to happen but when you register a domain name and actually start to build the web presence of the domain and website, that domain can take on a life of it’s own. Just look at Myspace and Twitter. No doubt the guys who originally registered these domains and started these sites could not have imagined in their wildest dreams how they would take off.

Adsense?

Adsense is something that I would expect you to signup for as it would add an income stream to your site. Adsense is FREE and yes I will set it up for you if needed although I doubt you’ll need any help as you can literally add it with the click of a link or two in your site admin panel.

PLUS, I have some tutorials with screenshots to show my customers exactly how to add Google Adsense. As I said in the blog info. I’ll not be leaving you to your own devices after signup.

Making Money?

There are many ways that you can make money from your site, Adsense is ONLY one. When any visitors to your site click on the adsense ads on your site you get paid anything from a few cents to a few dollars per click. Google can pay you via check or direct deposit to your bank.

You know, I was visiting John Chow’s blog last week. John is a renowned blogger who is actually making $40,000 from blogging alone. ANYONE can blog. I cannot stress that enough! All you need is a little courage to write what’s on your mind or going on in your business, and publish it.

If you aren’t comfortable, you can publish other people’s content, provided you have permission. There are 1000s of articles online with permission to republish. I’ll be telling you about these sites in my tutorials.

Another way to make money from your blog is through adding affiliate links to the site. There are 100s of affiliate products that can be taken from Clickbank.com and added to any site. You basically signup for a free clickbank account then any sales made through your site links are credited to your clickbank account and paid again via check or direct deposit.

I will be covering other ways that you can add income in my tutorials along with ways to market your site.

I think you partly answered your own question. You’ve READ ebooks and tips for a year and a half. Let me be frank, you aren’t going to make any money at all reading ebooks, watching videos, subscribing to courses or any of those activities.

Don’t feel alone in this though, I have been guilty of it myself as have the vast majority of people I am in contact with. It has been called the ‘Paralysis of Analysis’.

My question back at you would be ‘What action have you taken?’

You WILL earn money online IF you implement some of the stuff you are reading. There are 1000s of people like me online willing to share what works to make a living from the internet. Unfortunately most people are unwilling to do the work and keep doing it to succeed.

You don’t need to know all the ins and outs to take action. All you need is the know-how to take the FIRST step.

When you sign up go to the Warrior Special Offers section. You can usually judge by the feedback from members whether the reports are workable or not. Spend wisely!

You will ony make good money online when you commit to doing the work daily to build your business. I do mostly the same things today as I did when I first started.

I listened to a video last night by Jeff Dedrick where he talked about making $17,000 in affiliate commissions by sending out ONE email. This is indeed possible and more BUT this guy didn’t wake up one day with that list. He worked hard to get there as he says himself in the video.

Don’t listen to anyone who tells you it’s possible to make money online without taking persistent action. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!

It’s my understanding from dealing with 100s of different people interested in making money online that even when they do have some cash reserves they aren’t confident in investing it in something unless they have proof that this is for real and can be done. They want to dip their toes in first by NOT investing any money and joining free programs. Maybe this is the case with you, maybe not.

For instance, if you knew for sure you were going to to make $150 by investing $75 you WOULD find the money somewhere – even if you had to rob a bank. I’m not suggesting you do, of course;)

As you may have guessed from my site I am a big fan of blogging. I believe it is a great way to start bringing targeted traffic to ANY site on ANY topic.

TARGETED TRAFFIC = PROFITS

If I had to start from scratch with NO money I would start blogging AND I would start blogging about obscure hobbies or interests.

When you think about it the WWW is mainly a place for members of the public to find or share information. Many do it for fun. Others like myself do it to earn a living. I enjoy it too of course!

A blog is the perfect platform for publishing content, that’s why so many people do it.

Blogging is an easy way to publish content and make money in the process. Blogs are also a great marketing tool, IF they are updated frequently with new content. The search engines will visit often and snap up your content. This leads to seacrh engine visitors and eventually money in your pocket.

Although I prefer to host my own blog – own my own website that is under my control – you can find many sites that will offer you a free blog setup. For example Blogger.com and WordPress.com are two of the most popular.

Many people make the mistake that to make money online you have to set up a site like mine and offer other money making opportunities. This couldn’t be further from the truth. It is actually much easier to make money online in less competitive markets. Maybe you have a hobby or interest. Start blogging about that!

If you were to start blogging about virtually any online service or opportunity (For example My World Plus or SFI) and did it regularly, you would soon be on the top page of Google for search terms related to this product or service. Simply because the competition would not be that great. This search traffic – because it is TARGETED(People usually only search for something they are really interested in.) – would lead to opportunity signups and sales.

If you don’t want to write your own stuff then take articles from sites like Internethomebusinessarticles.com or have a ghostwriter write some content for you. This usually costs around $10 per article. My good friend Jeff Schuman offers such a service here.

I do advise that you make it a priority to write some of your own content or have it written for you. Generally, original content is better than articles that have already been published elsewhere

Your first goal should be to start getting targeted traffic coming to your site. If you write about a topic you are knowledgable about or have an interest in, then the traffic will naturally come.

You can help this process along by getting backlinks to your site. Here’s a free resource to help you build backlinks:
Free Traffic System – This system does offer a paid membership but I have been able to get along and get some quality backlinks with the free option. Stick with it!

Once the visitors are coming you can then think about monetizing that traffic. Programs like Google Adsense are a great place to start. Google will place topical advertising on your site and you get paid anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars everytime someone clicks the ads. Make sure to have at least some content on your site before applying for an account.

At Clickbank.com you can join affiliate programs and offer products or services related to the topic you are blogging about. You get paid commissions on any sales you make. Internet marketing is a numbers game. The more targeted visitors you have clicking through on your ads the more money you make.

There are also many CPA companies that offer ads that you can place on your site where you can get paid per lead, click thru, or sale.

ANYONE CAN DO THIS WITH A LITTLE EFFORT, FOCUS, AND PERSISTENCE

All of the above can be done 100% free BUT you do need to make a start on your blogging AND update your blog regularly if you are going to make any money this way. I can promise you one thing, you won’t make a dime unless you take the first step.
