Make Money Online with Membership Sites

Setting up and running an Internet marketing business based on membership sites is a dream come true for a hands off person such as myself.

The magic thing about using membership scripts such as Phpfox is that once you put in the initial work – providing you have built up a certain amount of targeted web traffic – the site will keep on growing all by itself.

That’s right, unlike most web businesses you must continue to add targeted content to your web portal in order to keep the traffic coming. Phpfox provides the perfect set up where your content will be provided by members of your site in an ever growing fashion.

Phpfox is similar to Myspace and Facebook in that members signup – for free usually – and begin interacting with other members through commenting, discussion forum, blogs, videos, pictures etc. etc.

I had an idea many months ago that if Myspace can have great success worldwide as a free for all, interactive web portal, then surely it would do just as well in niche markets. I have proved that to be true through my own niche membership sites.

I set a few sites up in niche markets and as stated above after the initial marketing to get the sites off the ground the membership tend to take the reins and the site grows on it’s own.

One of the few negatives about phpfox is that I’ve had to purchase quite a few plugins to get my site exactly how I want it to be. That said, you could setup and run a profitable web business from the out of the box Phpfox script. Plus within the next few months Phpfox will be releasing a new version of their script which promises to include loads more features – which were not added to the original version.

How do you monetize Phpfox?

There are a couple of ways – that I personally employ – to monetize my sites. The most profitable is by selling upgrades to new members. This basically involves limiting access to certain areas of the website to those that pay a monthly or yearly fee. I sell two subscriptions, Lifetime and Annual.

Another way to make money from your Phpfox business is to sell ad space. At the minute I make some monthly dollars through Google AdSense. To be honest though, I have not found a way to increase clickthroughs and revenue for AdSense. So, until now, the revenue has been quite low. Still, it is passive income. There is a way to switch on ads ONLY for free members and visitors.

One other method that I employ to monetize my Phpfox website is by selling affiliate products from the pages of my site and from within internal messages. The products obviously must be targeted to your niche market as there are affiliate programs in virtually every market imaginable it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a suitable product or service to sell to your members.

How to market your Phpfox business?

I have been primarily using two methods to market my Phpfox niche websites.

1. I have been marketing to YouTube using a piece of software called Tube Blaster Pro. The software allows me to find videos and YouTube members according to keyword. I then send out friend requests to my target market. It’s important not to overdo this as you will be accused of spam and may even lose your YouTube account. 2. Using similar software created by the same developers I also market to Myspace members. The same strategy applies. Use keyword searches to find Myspace users in your niche then send out friend requests. Click here for a more comprehensive review of Friend Blaster Pro.

You will need to setup an account with both Myspace and YouTube with a link back to your Phpfox site.

I am sure here are countless niches through which the average person can make a good living using Phpfox as their portal. I am also aware that not many are doing this at the minute. Of the Phpfox that I have seen many are shabbily put together and unprofessional. So plenty of room for improvement, even in niches where others have created sites already.

It’s important if you do go ahead that you present a professional image. Interacting professionally with members too is crucial. Phpfox does have a mass emailer to keep in touch with members. I opted though to purchase a plugin that allows me to send mass messages within the Phpfox membership area. We all know how unreliable is nowadays, so I’d much rather send messages internally to members.

Like all other internet marketing methods, the more of a relationship you build with those who join your membership site, the more successful your business is going to be. Building a loyal base will also encourage members to spread the word about your site. I have found that the membership and traffic grows exponentially after a little time.

Get a Backlink from Google

Everyone knows or at least they should know if they own an online business that the way to increase your search engine rankings is to get quality backlinks pointing to your site.

Well, with that in mind, how about a backlink from the king of websites, Google?

In order to do this, simply setup your Google profile at the link below:

Once done you need to add some links to your site and also use text for the links that correspond to your targeted link phrases – ie. the links that you want to rank well on the search engines for.

There are two places in the Google profile that you can add links.

1. In the “A little personality” section – Here just write a little about yourself, highlight your keyword phrase and click the link button to add a link back to your website.

2. In the ‘Links’ section. – This is fairly self explanatory, just follow the guidelines – Add link and then text for your link, then click the ‘Add’ button.

In the below image you can see how I completed the couple of steps above:

As far as I am aware these links are DoFollow link. This simply means they will count against your Google ranking once the page and links are indexed.

Now, obviously one link isn’t going to make a great difference. You need to find many more in order to really make an impact on the search engines. That said, you aren’t going to find much easier or quicker ways to grab a quality backlink than the method above.

How to Find a Shortcut to Make Money Online?

You can bid on sites with built in profits. I advise you to do your due diligence if you are interested in buying a business. Be extremely careful!

I have told people ad infinitum that there are NO SECRETS to building a successful internet marketing business.

Some unscrupulous internet marketers will make you believe that there is some secret method that they are not telling you about. Then, when they bring out their next super duper product, they promise to REVEAL the secret – when you fork over your money for the ebook or marketing course.

Believe me, if there was a secret I would know about it… I think!

If there IS a special way to make money easily online then I have been kept in the dark over this past 10 years.

Successful people take action and they are PERSISTENT. They take positive steps forward every day to build momentum and eventual sales in their internet business.

Another big part of their success is their frequent networking with other successful internet marketers.

You think John Reese could have made $1 million dollars in sales with his Traffic Secrets course had he not built of a network of people willing to sell his product as affiliates? No way!

The unfortunate thing though is that some of these networks will sell their buddy’s products even if they are not worth the investment. That said, of all the products I have purchased from those at the top of this business, I haven’t been disappointed yet. The ‘top guns’ have long since realized that providing great value leads to even greater profits down the line – when they release further products or services.

Anyone starting this business should keep in mind that providing value – even as a newcomer – will keep visitors coming back to your site or blog. Like all other endeavors though, hard work is required and there are NO shortcuts. The rewards will make all your efforts worthwhile though.

Article Marketing Strategies

Submitting to multiple article databases will be fine in regards to getting the article approved and on the pages of these sites.

In terms of maximising your chances of getting indexed on Google, and more importantly achieving high rankings in their index, then it’s definitely more productive to change your articles somewhat.

From what I can gather Google will only rank the original article with all others being penalized for being duplicate content.

Tip: If you are short on content make sure to submit your article to your own blog and give it a day or two to be indexed before submitting to the databases. That’s how I do it, with good results. That way the article on YOUR site will get the most benefit from Google indexing.

Personally I mostly produce articles to gain backlinks from other sites. either from the directories themselves – or from webmasters picking up my articles to post on their own websites.

I have been submitting articles for years now. My links now appear on 1000s of sites all over the WWW. If you do a search for my name on Google you can see many of the site where my articles have appeared.

I do use Submit Your Article’s article leverage tool to submit my articles. ‘Article Leverage’ allows me to change the article automatically with each submission via Submit Your Articles article distribution service. This means that a slightly different articles gets submitted to each database.

As stated above, this is important to increase your chances of getting your backlinks indexed in Google’s main index and NOT the supplemental results pages.

Numerous links back for one article submission I think is a good enough reason to use article marketing as an overall online marketing strategy. That said, it’s important to include various marketing tactics in your overall daily or weekly tasks.

What works well today in Internet marketing may not work so well tomorrow, or worse still, could be frowned upon by the major search engines.

It’s also important to mention that although I use the article backlink strategy, many Internet marketers concentrate on achieving lots of traffic from the article itself – IE. the article author bio or resource box. As mentioned in a previous blogs, you need to write quality articles to leave the reader interested enough to click through to your website for more info.

As with all Internet marketing strategies, the only way to know for sure what works for you and in your particular niche market is to test the methods for yourself.
