Clickbank Code Doesn’t Show a Lot of Business Sense
To Give Away Review Copies or Not?
I recently made a decision never to put another link on my site to products that I haven’t actually tried and tested or reviewed. This helps me actually sell more products – not to mention sleep better at nights. ![]()
If I’m gonna sell something then from now on, at the very least I am going to see the product or service and test it for myself.
Believe it or not, many marketers will sell and continue to sell services or products based on the sales conversions alone. Whether they are aware of the quality of the product or not, doesn’t come into the equation. I’ve done it myself! Not anymore though, going forward.
Getting to the point of this post, I emailed the staff at Clickbank Code to ask for a review copy of the product in return for reviewing it on this blog. Here’s their response:
Dear Mal,
If you wish to review the ClickBank Code, please purchase it.
After the purchase you will find all the material that we offer to our affiliates.
Kind Regards
Karen
Did I get them on a bad day? This doesn’t make sense!
Given the fact that I made them aware of the amount of traffic I get to this blog and that I’ve already made sales of the product to prove myself, I fully expected to receive a link to the download in the return email. Having checked my Clickbank stats I actually made 14 sales of this product in a couple of months totalling $100s in commissions for myself and the company.
I find it unbelievable that they would not send me a copy of a DIGITAL product – giving away one download, or a million copies, does not deplete their inventory of the product at all. So, they have nothing to lose and potentially a lot to gain by giving away copies to successful affiliates.
I was totally pissed off to be honest, as I had been looking forward to selling more of the Clickbank Code, and honestly reviewing what it had to offer.

I'm VERY serious about providing value to my readers and subscribers. If you're serious too, I'd like to personally teach you EXACTLY how to make money online...

Great post keep them up , ive greatly appreciated them!
Thank You
Of course you should get a review copy when you’ve pointed them to the sales you’ve made for them, and the traffic you get on blogs like this. It would allow you to give a better recommendation for it which would, in all likelihood increase their sales – far making up for ‘the one they gave away.’
This could just be a case of an unwise support team member not thinking things through (it actually sounds like they may not have even read things through!) Perhaps try again… with emphasis on the sales you’ve made, how you want to be able to give a proper review to increase their sales? Perhaps you’ll get another support member that replies, too.
Btw, I agree with you about not selling products you haven’t tried or reviewed. I started out with affiliate marketing recently trying to sell products I hadn’t even seen to people I cared about. But I very quickly stopped – part of me just couldn’t bring myself to do that. I was selling my values, not a product, for money.
Anyway, I tend to ramble a lot. Keep up the good work, Mal.

Good points, Liam. I never considered that it’s likely a inexperienced support person, making the wrong call.
I had originally contacted the JV email, then opened a support ticket when I didn’t get a response.
To be honest I’ll look for other products. Not worth the hassle to pursue when there are plenty of other products that will convert well and may be worth reviewing.
I think you’ll find that you’ll gain a lot more respect by being honest in your affiliate marketing. Good call!
Mal
