I believe now more than ever with a falling economy, and vast numbers of people on the verge of or already losing their jobs, that setting up an internet business will become a necessity for growing numbers of internet users.

Although unemployment is never a good thing, in many cases it will give many the push that they need to make their online business a success. After all, what better incentive is there than the need to provide for your family.

The vast majority of newcomers to online business don’t treat their new endeavor with the seriousness, commitment and respect that it deserves. Thus the results they achieve usually reflect their lack of enthusiasm.

It is extremely important for ANYONE setting out to make a career online that they quickly realize that online business is REAL and MUST be treated like any other business.

It’s important, just like in offline business that you budget your money. You can expect to be setting up and learning about your new enterprise in the first few months. So, you should budget accordingly. Give yourself at least 6 months to a year to turnover a profit.

Never realizing that only THEY are responsible for setting out a realistic, workable business plan. YOU MUST DO THIS IF YOU PLAN TO SUCCEED!

You should also set aside at least an hour or two per day to work on your new business. Don’t try to cram it all in at once. This is a sure way to tire yourself out and lose faith. This is a marathon NOT a sprint. So, take it slow and steady. Persistence pays off.

Overnight successes are few and far between. So, don’t expect to be one.

Internet business requires hard work, persistence, and a strong desire to succeed.

Once you find one that you believe is legitimate the next thing you will want to check is the amount of commissions that this company will pay. I am an internet affiliate marketer and to me the commissions are everything. I won’t even bother to promote a program or opportunity unless I am guaranteed of a good % of the sale.

It is also possible to make money online from business that will promote multiple opportunities from the same website. Multiple streams of income is something that the net has made all the more possible because of the easy access to information and the vast traffic from all over the world that can be driven to websites with the right marketing know-how.

Given the amount of dodgy business opportunities on the net it is no surprise that most newcomers to online business are very reluctant to give their time and cash to a venture that may turn out to be one big SCAM.

It is important that you do your due diligence - in plain English that means do your research - before signing up for any work at home opportunities on the internet. There are many free opportunties that you can try for free but I certainly would caution agaisnt EVER giving your credit card details before properly checking out what it is you are joining.

One easy way to do this is by doing a quick search on Google for your new work from home business and surveying the results for any signs that it may be a scam. There are also loads of home based business discussion forums where you can find the latest scams and genuine internet business opportunties. Scammers don’t usually last for long before being found out. Once they are, they will be widely exposed in online discussion boards and forums.

It is also a good idea to go with a work at home business that has been around for a while. These businesses are less likely to go bust or disappear, than would a brand new enterprise.

Most new businesses fail within the first 3 years so if the opportunity has survived beyond that point you can be fairly certain that ther are plenty of satisfied customers.

I have been working online since 1998 and finally left my offline job to do this full-time in 2004. I have seen my fair share of scamsters but I have to say that there are more legitimate businesses out there than those looking to take your money and run.
