Working from home has many benefits. You can set your own hours, come and go as you please, take as many breaks as you want, and most of all, you can spend more time with your family. The down side is, you can lose out on productivity if you are not careful of managing your time. It is easy to become carried away with the benefits and end up working twice as hard to be productive. Here are a few of the biggest work at home distractions you may run into from time to time. Too Much Internet Browsing Working online can lead to many distractions. If you run any of the instant messenger programs, it only takes a few instant messages with links to other web sites that can have you browsing for hours on end. Browsing sites should be saved for after work hours or else you could be wasting precious time (especially if you bill by the hour) which leads to missing deadlines. Even if you work strictly for yourself such as running affiliate marketing sites, you still want to have a productive day in order to keep sales up. Surfing the web can eat up a huge chunk of time. Running Errands Even I am guilty of this because running errands during the week are usually the best time to run them. Most people are at their workplace therefore meaning less crowds in places such as banks, post offices, malls, etc. Errands are fine but need to be scheduled accordingly. If you have a ton of errands, try scheduling for one day out of the work week instead of spreading them out. The reason for this is that when you are out running errands, it is easy to get caught up window shopping or browsing the aisles. If you set out one specific day, at least you have the rest of the week to stay on track with your projects. Watching Television Some people have televisions in their home offices. Nothing is wrong with this, unless you spend more time watching it than getting any work done. It all boils down to limiting your television time. Some people find they work better with background noise. If this is the case for you, try listening to talk radio or music more. With television, you tend to focus your attention to what's happening on the tv screen rather than your computer screen. Move the television out of your office if you find it is lowering your productivity. Although working at home is almost everyone's ideal job, you still want to make it as productive as possible. Once you limit your distractions and complete more of your projects, you'll feel more of a sense of accomplishment and enthusiasm to get things done.
