One way to kick start your search for proofreading jobs is to take a proofreading course.  There are a number of proofreading courses online or at your local community college that will enhance your eye for detail.  Proofreading jobs require you to have an above average grasp of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.  However, even though you excelled at Language Arts, it does not mean that proofreading jobs will be easy to come by.

Reciprocal linking has dropped off of my priority list of web site promotions but it can still be a very important means of web site promotion if done properly, and back links to your site are also essential to a good search engine ranking with Google. First of all you are not going to want to trade links with just anyone. Make sure the page’s your links are going to be on are actually indexed by Google. If you do not have the Google toolbar get it. It will tell you if a page has been indexed or not. Also ask the webmaster you are trading links with how many links they have per page. If they put more than 30 links on a page chances are your link will be lost and never clicked on.

Free classified advertising is another way to promote your site for free. But as the internet grows so too does the amount of webmasters submitting to these free classified sites. And the more people there are posting the less likely your ad will be seen. The key to good free classified advertising is testing your results. Test everything you do. When you find a good classified site that is giving you traffic keep using it but follow their guidelines on how often you should post.

Last but not least you need to be collecting e-mail addresses from your web site. Start a newsletter and ask your visitors to subscribe somewhere on your site. Do you ever count the number of wasted hours you’re stuck in traffic jams? Well folks, that is definitely not my idea of fun! My idea of fun is to work from home. I decide when to get up, what assignments to accept, how many hours a day I want to put in, and when to walk from home to office to home by simply crossing the threshold from one room to another.

Prior to relocating to Jaffa I ran a work from home business: typing, proofreading, editing, and translating. I could work in the middle of the night if I felt like it. I would simply put on a bathrobe and slippers and patter downstairs to my home office. I could also organize my work day around my home chores. As a single parent raising two teenage daughters this was a great arrangement. I won’t deny that sometimes my dual responsibilities clashed. Still, I was my very own work from home boss!Having made a career change I now write website articles for all you wonderful people out there. I work out of the confines of my cozy Jaffa apartment. I can work in the nude if I so desire. It wouldn’t make any difference to anyone. I think I do my best work from this home job set up and I believe this to be a real earn extra income opportunity. However, time will be the judge of that. Meanwhile my friends, enjoy!
